ABOUT US
WHO ARE WE?
My name is Stephanie Mendelson, founder of Family Autism Network or FAN. I previously worked in the special needs charity world and my experiences prompted me to start FAN. Creating this new venture came about from the wealth of special needs parents who came looking for social connections for themselves and their children. I wanted this to be my area of focus as I've seen first hand how families benefit from this. When I received my sons autism diagnosis it was a very scary and unsure time. Having others around you who are going through the same thing is crucial. Being able to have good times is essential. Sustained friendships and opportunities for social growth are often the missing piece for those with autism. Finding others who you can have true supportive, judgement free friendships is what FAN is all about.
THE MISSION OF FAN
Our mission is clear....to help foster meaningful friendships for children and young adults with special needs in order to combat feelings of isolation an depression. We also want to create a community of parents that can connect and support each other. We hope to provide opportunities for social growth and acceptance. Click below to read more about our focus.
